Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood on Saturday said the Delhi government has released ₹175 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as special financial assistance to improve sanitation in the city.
“The [Delhi] government has released special financial assistance of ₹175 crore to the MCD to ensure timely payment of contractors’ dues,” Mr. Sood said.
While meeting residents of Vishnu Garden in west Delhi as part of an initiative to review cleanliness in the area, he said the Delhi government is consistently working at multiple levels to strengthen the city’s sanitation system and improve waste management.
Taking a dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, he said, “During AAP’s tenure in the MCD, several incorrect contracts were awarded and mismanagement occurred due to which the functioning of the corporation deteriorated, directly affecting the city’s sanitation system.”

The Minister encouraged residents to share with him photographs of overflowing bins and stagnant water to keep him informed about sanitation issues.
