₹2,028 crore allocated for constructing 60 railway overpasess in State, says CM

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday (August 12) said ₹2,028 crore had been allocated for constructing 60 railway overpasses across Kerala to achieve a seamless road network. Of this, ₹1,800 crore will be funded through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). He was speaking after inaugurating the Koduvally railway overpass in Thalassery constituency.

Maintaining that overpasses were essential to speed up road traffic, he said the government’s ‘Kerala without level crossings’ project was part of a vision to complete development works in time. “We not only make promises but fulfil them without delay. People’s trust in this system is increasing, and we are committed to maintaining it,” he added.

Terming the Koduvally flyover a long-cherished dream of Thalassery, the Chief Minister said the ₹36.37-crore project was completed despite funding challenges and land acquisition hurdles. The State contributed ₹26.31 crore and Railways ₹10 crore, with ₹16.25 lakh spent solely on acquiring 123.6 cents from 27 landowners.

“Though some tried to obstruct it, the work was completed in time,” he said. The bridge, built using a steel-concrete composite structure model for the first time in Kerala, is 10.05 metres wide, with concrete piles and pile caps, steel piers, girders, and a concrete deck slab.

Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas and Speaker A.N. Shamseer were present.
