A van driver was killed and 14 others were injured, when a van collided with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus in the early hours of Friday.
Police said a group of people from Thiruvallur district, who had arrived here by train on Thursday morning, were returning to Tirunelveli by van after visiting a Tiruchendur Sri Subramaniya Swami Temple and ‘nava tirupathi’. When they were crossing Aachimadam near Palayamkottai in the small hours of Friday, an oncoming TNSTC bus proceeding from Tirunelveli to Tiruchendur collided with the van. Van driver Shankar, 45, of Thatchanallur died on the spot, while 14 others, including 6 children, were injured.
On getting information, the fire and rescue services personnel from Palayamkottai Fire Station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who have been admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
Sivanthipatti police have registered a case.
