“Even a thousand years ago, Tamil Nadu had the Kudavolai system to choose people’s representatives,” Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said at the 16th National Voters’ Day function at the Ripon Buildings campus in Chennai on Sunday.

The State-level programme was held under her leadership. Ms. Patnaik said the Election Commission of India (ECI) had adopted “My India, My Vote” as the theme for the year. She said that officials at all levels were engaged in preparing a perfect electoral roll and in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections. Around 80,000 personnel were currently involved in the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Certificates of appreciation and shields were presented to students who won competitions organised in connection with National Voters’ Day, and Electoral Photo Identity Cards were distributed to first-time and newly enrolled voters.
