Officials of the South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada division, conducted surprise checks in moving trains and in stations, and collected ₹24,800 as fines during cleanliness drives, said Additional Divisional Railway Managers P.E. Edwin and Srinivas Rao Konda.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Edwin said that the officials and staff conducted extensive searches during ‘Swachhata Abhiyaan’, ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ and ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ drives.
Cleanliness drives were taken up in all the railway stations, which was attended by nearly 1,595 officials and 2,243 volunteers. The event also saw 741 webinars being held. The participants collected 1 tonne of waste, planted 35 saplings, cleaned 341 drains and 30 offices during the drive, Mr. Srinivas Rao said.
Mr. Srinivas Rao appealed to the passengers to cooperate with the railway officials in maintaining hygienic conditions on platforms and in the trains.
