Puttur Rural police rescued an animal and booked three persons for alleged illegal cattle transportation on September 20.
Police stated that a pick-up vehicle was stopped in Parladka village on the Mani-Mysuru National Highway 275. An animal was being transported in an inhuman way. One of the two men in the vehicle told police that they had purchased the animal from Poovappa, a resident of Tingaladygatty village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, for ₹17,000. The driver claimed that they were taking the cattle to a place in Kedila for slaughter.
The police booked a case against the duo — Abdul Kareem (38) and Abdul Jameer (27) — and Poovappa for offences under Sections 4, 7 and 12 of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, and Section 66 and 192 (A) Indian Motor Vehicles Act.
