A tense situation unfolded in west Delhi’s Nangloi in the early hours of Saturday as a police encounter took place while arresting three persons accused of opening fire at a patrolling team three days ago.
The accused – identified as Osaf Ali, Md. Kamran alias Shahrukh, and Firoz alias Sajid – were injured during the encounter and subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the police said.
According to the police, a patrolling team spotted the accused on Wednesday while they were attempting to rob a hardware shop in Nangloi. On seeing the police, they fled the scene. One of the accused then opened fire at the policemen who were chasing them. They managed to escape while continuing to fire at the police.
3 pistols recovered
The forensic team visited the spot. Three pistols were recovered from the accused, an official said.
On Saturday, the Nangloi police received information about their whereabouts. “All night-patrolling units, emergency response vehicles and other staff were alerted to look for the accused. The suspects were spotted near Prem Nagar crossing around 3.35 a.m. When asked to stop for verification, they attempted to flee, but their motorcycle slid forward. They then opened indiscriminate fire at the police,” Sachin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District), said.
“Sub-Inspector Yogender and Head Constable Vikas Kumar were hit by bullets but escaped injury thanks to their bulletproof jackets. We returned fire, aiming at the suspects’ legs and managed to arrest them. The injured, including the accused and police officials, were immediately shifted to SGM Hospital, Mangolpuri, where they are under going treatment,” Mr. Sharma added.
