District Collector R. Brindha Devi on Friday said that there are 3,264 polling stations in 11 Assembly constituencies.
On Friday, a meeting was conducted with recognised political parties in Salem Collectorate regarding special summary revision, rationalisation of polling stations and releasing of the draft electoral roll for 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Devi, who is also the District Election Officer, said that under the special summary revision for 2026, the list of polling stations were released on January 6, 2025. As per the list, there are 264 polling stations in Gangavalli (SC), 284 in Attur (SC), 318 in Yercaud (ST), 346 in Omalur, 316 in Mettur, 325 in Edappadi, 315 in Sankari, 296 in Salem West, 262 in Salem North, 239 in Salem South and 299 polling stations in the Veerapandi Assembly constituency.
According to the existing voter list, polling stations with more than 1,200 voters should be divided and new polling stations should be created.
Stating that recommendation received for creating 189 new polling stations, Ms. Brindha Devi said that as per that 15 new polling stations in Gangavalli, 22 in Attur, 18 in Yercaud, 12 in Omalur, 10 in Mettur, 17 in Edappadi, 24 in Sankari, 11 in Salem West, 24 in Salem North, 28 in Salem South and 8 in the Veerapandi assembly constituency. Likewise, recommendations were received for relocating 37 polling stations and changing the names of two polling booths. Regarding this, recognized political party representatives shall give their views or new suggestions in writing in next one week at the Election Section in Salem Collectorate or to the concerned constituency electoral officer. Action will be taken on the suggestions received based on the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Collector added.
In the meeting, Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan and officials from concerned departments participated.
