The Narcotic Intelligence Bureau (NIB) CID on Friday (September 26, 2025) destroyed 3,408.345 kg of ganja, along with other narcotic substances, worth ₹4 crore at Thenmelpakkam in Chengalpattu district.

The contraband, seized in 339 cases across Tamil Nadu, included 0.728 kg of heroin, 1.2 kg of charas, 1 kg of diazepam, 1 kg of ganja chocolate, and 1.1 kg of methamphetamine.

The narcotics were incinerated under strict protocols as part of the State’s drive to curb illicit drug trade. The destruction process was monitored by a high-level committee comprising Senthilkumari, Inspector General of Police (Crime), the Superintendent of Police, NIB CID, and the Deputy Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory.

According to an official release, NIB CID has so far in 2025 destroyed 29,738.07 kg of dry ganja, 77.67 kg of hashish, 104.2 kg of charas, 2.590 kg of heroin, 1 kg of diazepam, 246.6 kg of ganja chocolate and 2.71 kg of methamphetamine —together valued at ₹31 crore — seized in 2,081 cases.
