A 50-year-old bank employee, reportedly in an inebriated state, died on Sunday after he fell during an altercation with traffic police personnel in Perambur. The traffic police have denied that its personnel had pushed him during the dispute.
Police sources said the police personnel were conducting a drunk driving check near a school on Madhavaram High Road in Perambur on Sunday. They intercepted the car of Karamson Kamaraj, a bank employee from Venkateshwara Colony in Kodungaiyur. When he tested positive for the breathalyser test, they asked him to go home in another vehicle. Kamaraj, who alighted from the car, got into an argument with the police personnel, during which he fell down.
A senior traffic police officer said when the personnel who were on duty asked Kamaraj’s son to take him in another vehicle, he started a quarrel and fell down by accident.
He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead. His body was taken to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.
