Three years since its set up, the robotic surgery centre at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (TNGMSSH), Omandurar Estate has completed 500 surgeries.
Health Minister Ma. Subramanian said the centre was established in March 2022 at a cost of ₹34.60 crore. Urological surgeries, cancer surgeries, endocrine surgeries, cardiac surgeries and gastrointestinal surgeries have been performed at the robotic surgery centre. Urology, oncology and cardiothoracic vascular surgeries were performed robotically. Robotic surgeries leave very small scars and patients need not stay for a longer period in the hospital, he said.
He mentioned that robotic procedures that cost up to ₹20 lakh have been provided free of cost for patients at the government facility. The Minister said that work is in progress to establish a special treatment unit for sportspersons at a cost of ₹7.70 crore at TNGMSSH.
