Food Safety Officers seized 55,050 kg of sesame seeds, which was transported in two trucks that did not have food safety certification, in Virudhunagar on Saturday.
During a random checking of the trucks parked at Villipathiri, a team of food safety officials, led by the Virudhunagar district Designated officer S. Mariappan, found that 734 bags of sesame seeds had been brought for an edible oil factory of a popular brand in Virudhunagar, a statement said.
The officials found that the trucks and also the truck operator did not possess food safety license. Besides, the supplier of the oil seeds also did not have food safety license.
The entire goods, worth ₹59.89 lakh, along with the two trucks were seized by the officials.
The sample of oil seeds has been taken for analysis. The officials have booked a case against transport operator and the oil factory for having bought gingelley from the supplier, who did not have food safety license, the statement said.
