5th Beypore International Water Festival begins

The fifth edition of the Beypore International Water Festival began on Friday with a variety of fun and entertainment in Beypore and nearby areas. While water sports are the biggest attraction of the festival, allied events like the International Kite Festival, para-motoring, and an opportunity to visit the Navy ship INS Kalpeni is drawing quite a crowd to the Beypore marina and Beypore port, the main venue of the festival.

This year, the public get to experience the water themselves on banana boats, sitting bumper, sleeping bumper, kayaks, and donuts from 11 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. until the festival concludes.

The International Kite festival is adding colours to the skies of Beypore. MLA Ahamed Devarkovil inaugurated the kite festival on Friday. Kite-flyers from Indonesia, Vietnam, Oman, Turkey and Mauritius besides from Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha and Kerala are taking part in the festival. The kites include figures such as horse, tiger and other animals, and flags of various countries. There are competitions in kite stunts, sports kite, 3D kite and kite show from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m and the winners will be declared on the last day.

Hundreds of people are visiting the Navy Ship INS Kalpeni anchored at the Beypore port as part of the water festival. The public can take a look at the deck (the front portion of the ship), the Quarter deck at the back, and the security features and armoury inside the ship. There is also an exhibition and sale of navy products such as jackets, caps and key chains. The ship is open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Stalls of the Coast Guard, Police Armour Wing, and Social Policing have been set up at the port, mainly featuring security and navigation equipment.

Para-motoring was a novel experience for the visitors at the festival on Friday. The gliders that took off from the Gotheeswaram beach glided over the Beypore marina. The paramotoring shows are to be performed from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the remaining days of the festival as well. The show is led by Salim Hassan and Xavier Thomas, experienced paragliders.

Fun boats, windsurfing, and laser peacock show were some of the other attractions on the first day of the festival.

Sailing regatta, bumper boat/ banana boat demo, dinghy boat race, net throwing, flyboard demo, paramotoring demo, stand-up pedal demo, and surfing demo are some of the major attractions of the second day of the festival at the Beypore marina.

A food festival on Parisons Ground, a martial arts and gymnastics show at 5 p.m and a cultural programme at 7 p.m. are to be held at Oceanus Chaliyam. A responsible tourism festival has begun at the Nallur Mini Stadium near Feroke where a musical night will be held at 7 p.m.

A gazal event at Rahman Park, theatre festival at Ganapath AUP School, Ramanattukara, a magic and mentalism programme at Feroke We Park at 7 p.m. and rhythm night at Nallalam We Park at 7 p.m. are the other attractions.
