Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn on the sets of ‘Golmaal 5’

Hindi filmmaker Rohit Shetty announced the much-awaited fifth instalment of the hit comedy franchise Golmaalon Saturday (March 15) on the occasion of his 52nd birthday. Notably, as an additional surprise, the makers have also announced that superstar Akshay Kumar has joined the cast of the film starring Ajay Devgn.
Rohit penned a note along with a special video on Instagram announcing the commencement of the shoot. “20 years ago, the first ‘Golmaal’ was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience,” he wrote.
“Over the past 20 years, we have entertained you, and yes, sometimes disappointed you, but we have always been honest in our work. So now, once again, my fabulous team and I are set on a journey to entertain you as we start filming G5. You have always loved and supported me,” he added.
The announcement video features Rohit and his team sharing banter with Ajay, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Tusshar Kapoor, taking a dig at Sharman Joshi’s return. Ajay announces a big surprise, which is when Akshay makes a grand entrance to the set, in an all-new bald look and in black pyjamas.
Golmaal is one of the most successful Hindi comedy franchises. The first film was released in 2006, and the makers followed it with other instalments in 2008, 2010 and 2017. They all followed stories of how Ajay and his gang end up in hilarious situations and make their way out of them.
