The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has decided to withdraw its decision to develop the Golden Jubilee Hospital (GJH) under the Public Private Partnership (PPP)-mode, port personnel officer Kanaka Raju, and Dr. S. Usha Devi, Chief Medical Officer of GJH, informed the striking port and dock workers on Monday.
The port and dock workers, under the aegis of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), for the past 532 days, have been staging a relay hunger strike outside the hospital opposing the VPA’s decision to ‘develop the hospital under the PPP-mode. The VPA representatives visited the protest camp and informed the workers that the management has decided to continue operating the hospital under the existing Operation and Maintenance (O&M) system, with control remaining with the VPA.
