Speakers highlight social workers key role on ‘World Social Work Day’


Speakers at the ‘World Social Work Day’ observed by Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore, noted that the department of study holds relevance in uplifting the marginalised and underprivileged sections of the society.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Allam Srinivasa Rao, who inaugurated the event, called social workers ‘key to social change’ and appreciated their invaluable contributions. He also encouraged students to go beyond classroom learning by engaging in fieldwork to gain practical experience.

Prof. Rao highlighted the growing opportunities in the domains of rural development, women empowerment, and environmental protection.

Registrar K. Suneetha said that the noble profession promotes human values and emphasised that, by adopting a scientific approach to addressing social issues, it can enhance leadership qualities among students.

Social Work departmental head R. Madhumathi and Principal Prof. Ch. Vijaya took part in the programme.

Meanwhile, at Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati, Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Uma hailed the role of social workers in promoting inclusive development, social justice, and communal harmony.

Social activist K. Gnanasekhar Reddy, Government observation home Superintendents M. Sarath Babu (boys), A.V. Suneetha (girls) and Dr. K. Manjula from PASS drug de-addiction centre spoke about the role of social workers.
