
Thousands of peoples thronged New harbour beach in Thoothukudi on Thursday during the Aadi Ammavasai.

Thousands of people thronged to sea shores and river banks across Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts to mark “Aadi Amavasai” rituals in the remembrance of their ancestors.
In Thoothukudi, large crowds gathered along the seashores of Tiruchendur, New Harbour Beach, Threspuram and other coastal areas, as well as the banks of the Tamirabharani river to take holy dips and to perform ancestral rites.
As part of the “Aadi Amavasai” observance in Tiruchendur , thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the sea and performed rites under the guidance of priests. Following that, devotees have proceeded to darshan at the Subramaniya Swamy Temple.
Similarly in other parts of the district including New Harbour Beach and Threspuram large numbers of people began gathering from the early hours. In addition, the banks of the Tamirabharani river in various parts of the district were crowded with devotees paying respects to their ancestors.
In Kanniyakumari, a large number of people began gathering at the Triveni sangamam in the wee hours of Thursday. The other shores of the district also witnessed significant gatherings of people observing “Aadi Amavasai”. A large number of people also gathered along the banks of Tambirabharani river in Kuzhithurai to perform ancestral rites.
