In just two hours, Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills recorded a sharp spell of rain measuring 74.5 mm on Monday (August 2, 2025) afternoon, as heavy showers lashed several parts of the city. The sudden downpour brought much-needed relief from the recent dry spell. Accompanied by loud claps of thunder and overcast skies, the rainfall prompted many residents to pause and look up as the weather took a dramatic turn.

According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 4 p.m., Banjara Hills recorded the highest rainfall of 74.5 mm followed by 53.3 mm in Mehdipatnam, 50.8 mm in Srinagar Colony, 46.8 mm in Jubilee Hills, 39.5 mm in Yousufguda, 36.3 mm in Khairatabad, 34.8 mm in Ameerpet, 34.5 mm in Kukatpally, 31.5 mm in Asifnagar, 29.3 mm in Kapra, 29.3 mm in Attapur, 27.8 mm in Rajendranagar, 25.5 mm in Falaknuma, 24.3 mm in Neredmet, 23.8 mm in Moosapet, 23.3 mm in AS Rao Nagar, 23 mm in Mallapur, 20.8 mm in Goshamahal and 14.8 mm in Uppal.

Several areas across Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills witnessed waterlogging leading to slow traffic movement. Many commuters who were not prepared for the rain took shelter below metro pillars until the rain slowed down.

In its latest bulletin issued on Monday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers, along with gusty winds, for Hyderabad and its neighbouring areas over the next 48 hours.
