
Timely tribute: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paying homage to freedom fighter ‘Veeramangai’ Velu Nachiyar
in Chennai on Friday.
The Police Training School in Vellore will be named after freedom fighter ‘Veeramangai’ Velu Nachiyar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Friday.
He unveiled a statue of the freedom fighter on the Gandhi Mandapam campus in Chennai and paid floral tributes. The statue has been installed at a cost of ₹50 lakh.
Recalling the DMK government’s efforts at honouring eminent personalities, Mr. Stalin pointed out that the government’s tableau for the Republic Day Parade in 2023 featured a statue of Velu Nachiyar.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin; Ministers E.V. Velu, S. Regupathy, KR. Periakaruppan, M.P. Saminathan, R.S. Rajakannappan, Ma. Subramanian, P.K. Sekarbabu, and T.R.B. Rajaa; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; MPs T.R. Baalu and Thamizhachi Thangapandian; MLAs A.M.V. Prabhakara Raja, S. Aravind Ramesh, and K. Ganapathy; and senior officials were present at the event.
Mr. Stalin also visited a camp organised under the ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ programme in Ward 133 at T. Nagar and interacted with those visiting it. T. Nagar MLA J. Karunanithi and senior officials were present.
