A longshot at 20-to-1 Odysseus, partnered by Neeraj Rawal, sprang a big surprise by winning the Indian St. Leger (Gr. 1), the fifth and final Indian Classic of 2025, held here on Sunday (Sept. 21). Jockey Antony Raj S rode three winners on the day. Apprentice jockey Aditya Waydande, who also won three races today, took his career tally to 20 wins and he will be eligible to claim 2.5 kg allowance from next week.
Neeraj kept this son of Ulysses–Hidden Valley settled in second spot for most of the gruelling 2,800-metre trip. On entering the home straight, both Positano and Pyrite surged past him near 150-metre. But Neeraj rode vigorously to rally his mount and the colt fought back gamely to snatch victory by a length from Pyrite.
