A 600 million bottles a year PET bottle manufacturing facility established with an investment of ₹115 crore at IMFL maker Allied Blenders and Distillers integrated manufacturing facility in Rangapur, about 160 kms from Hyderabad, opened on Tuesday.
It will reduce reliance on external suppliers, lower logistics costs and enhance supply chain efficiency, managing director Alok Gupta told media. The facility is one of the three projects on which the company has lined up ₹527 crore capital expenditure from FY25 to FY27.
A single malt distillery in Rangapur and expansion of the recently acquired ENA distillery in Maharashtra, from 11 million litres to 60 million litres, are the other two.
To queries, he said the the PET bottle plant will meet a significant portion of ABD’s packaging needs. Around 480 million bottles will get consumed on site.
On the core alcobev manufacturing facility in Rangapur, Mr. Gupta said the company had acquired the plant in 2017 and expanded. It comprises an ENA distillery and an IMFL bottling unit besides the new PET bottling unit. There is land available for expansion, he said.
The Rangapur facility is one of the two plants ABD has in Telangana — the other is in Hyderabad — and among 9 owned by the company across the country. The company manufactures at 26 third party sites. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan figure in top five markets for the company.
On the outstanding due from the State government, he said: “the government is 1759373374 paying regularly on time the monthly billings. However, there is an overdue of about 10 months to the entire industry of about ₹3,000 crore.” For the company, the dues will be about ₹400 crore, he replied, adding the government is releasing the outstanding in portions and the industry is hopeful that more will be cleared in the next month or two.
