Keith Urban is experiencing an unforgettable year of change.
Us Weekly confirmed in September 2025 that the “Somebody Like You” singer and Nicole Kidman had separated after 19 years of marriage. Soon after, the Big Little Lies actress filed for divorce from her husband.
“They had been quietly separated for a while now but needed time to figure out if they were going to actually divorce,” a well-connected Nashville source exclusively shared with Us. “She had faith they could work it out.”
Behind the scenes, the source explained that both parties had been spending “a lot of time apart due to work commitments” and had been living “separate lives.”
While a separation is certainly a big change, Urban, 57, has been making other adjustments in his life in recent months.

2025 will be the year Urban dips his feet into the reality TV genre thanks to his participation on The Road.
CBS’ new music competition series — which is scheduled to premiere on October 19, 2025 — will follow 12 emerging musicians as they compete as opening acts for Urban at music venues across America.
“Without a shiny floor in sight, the docu-follow format captures the high-stakes unfiltered musical journeys of these triple threats — singers, songwriters and instrumentalists — offering a backstage pass into the gritty and unforgiving life of a touring musician,” read the official synopsis for the series. “With exclusive access to behind-the-scenes workings of the music industry, viewers will see what happens when some of the best emerging musicians pile into a tour bus and tackle a grueling schedule in pursuit of their dreams.”
Keith Urban’s Changing Band
Before kicking off 2025, Urban parted ways with two longtime band members.
“It’s with a heavy but very full heart that after 25 years on stage with Keith Urban, Keith has decided to make a lineup change and I will no longer be in the band,” bandleader and bass player Jerry Flowers shared via Instagram on January 10, 2025. “I have and always will have the utmost respect and love for Keith, and I treasure the amazing years we had together.”
Band member Nathan Barlowe also confirmed he would no longer be rocking out alongside Urban.
“I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the last 9 years,” he wrote via Instagram per Taste of Country. “I have loved every second of it and given my all. Thank you Keith for believing in me.”
Keith Urban’s Changing Lyrics

Before news of Urban and Kidman’s split surfaced, the country singer had changed the lyrics to one of his songs inspired by his estranged wife.
Although Urban usually sings, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter,” in his hit collaboration “The Fighter” with Carrie Underwood, he recently tweaked the words and offered a shout-out to his guitarist and rising country music star Maggie Baugh.
“When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player,” Urban could be heard singing in a concert clip.
Urban once said “The Fighter” was inspired by a conversation he had with Kidman, 58, early on in their relationship.
“When things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her,” Urban recalled to Billboard in March 2017. “The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”

After kicking off his High and Alive tour in May 2025 — nearly eight months after the release of his 11th studio album, High — Urban explained why this round of concerts feels different.
“I got a lot of new band members. It’s a new stage, it’s a new production, so there’s more things new about it than there isn’t,” he told Yahoo. “I just feel a sense of freshness and excited energy to get out and play and see what works, what doesn’t work, what we have to move and shape, and just be in the moment with the audience. It always feels brand-new to me.”
In his first concert since Kidman filed for divorce, Urban chose not to include “The Fighter” in his set list.
