A 46-year-old man, earlier arrested for the murder of his wife, was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life, alongside additional sentences for theft and domestic abuse, by a court in Kukatpally on Tuesday.
The accused, Santosh Kulbe, a resident of Moosapet was convicted for the killing of his wife, Surekha, following a violent domestic dispute.
On the evening of May 14, 2022, Kulbe returned home in a drunken state and assaulted his wife. She was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on May 19, 2022.
Kulbe was also accused of stealing gold ornaments from the victim during the attack.
The case was registered under Sections 498(A), 302, and 382 of the Indian Penal Code at Kukatpally police station, and the investigation, led by Inspector P. Narsing Rao, gathered sufficient evidence to secure conviction.
During the trial, Public Prosecutor G.V. Rama Krishna Rao presented witnesses and material evidence to the court. After careful consideration, Judge M. Venkateshwara Rao pronounced the judgment, sentencing Kulbe to life imprisonment for murder by strangulation, five years’ rigorous imprisonment for theft, and one year’s rigorous imprisonment for domestic cruelty, with fine of ₹1,000 for each offence.
