Netflix has unveiled the first images from One Piece: Into the Grand Line, the upcoming second season of its hit live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga. The reveal offers fans a colossal first look at Laboon, the giant whale who plays a pivotal role as the Straw Hat Pirates set sail into new territory.

In the photos shared by Entertainment Weekly, the crew — led by Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) — comes face-to-face with Laboon, the enormous sea creature who lives near the Twin Cape Lighthouse. Watching over him is Crocus, the kindly doctor played by Game of Thrones alum Clive Russell.
Laboon, a fan-favorite from the source material, is a “big friendly” whale marked by scars from years of crashing against Reverse Mountain. Actor Taz Skylar, who portrays Sanji, described the character with affection. “I would say Laboon is playful and mischievous,” he told EW. “I think Laboon knows what he’s doing — either that, or he’s got a fish brain and he just doesn’t remember.”
Skylar revealed that the production team didn’t rely solely on CGI to bring the whale to life. “Yeah, I mean, they built a whale!” he said. The crew transformed their largest boat set — “literally the size of a cruise ship” — into Laboon’s interior, complete with shipwreck props and stomach acid effects. “It was way bigger than a normal whale — the size of a monster, dinosaur whale,” he added.
Season 2, which follows the Straw Hats’ journey through the treacherous Grand Line, introduces new cast members including Lera Abova as Miss All-Sunday, Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Callum Kerr as Captain Smoker, and Brendan Murray as Brogy.
“The Grand Line is where everybody has their rulebook on how the world is supposed to work — and then it all stops applying,” Skylar teased. “It’s the point of no return.”
One Piece Season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2026. A third season has already been confirmed, with Matt Owens and Joe Tracz returning as co-showrunners.
