Union Minister Bandi Sanjay reviewing the Prisons department’s reform and rehabilitation initiatives at the Prisoners Agriculture Colony and Central Prison in Cherlapalli.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay on Sunday visited the Prisoners Agriculture Colony (PAC) and Central Prison in Cherlapalli, reviewing the Telangana Prisons department’s reform and rehabilitation initiatives aimed at turning inmates into skilled workers and self-reliant citizens.
The Minister inspected several innovative programmes, including the Adventure Park, an initiative that employs open-air jail inmates and released prisoners in recreational and educational activities.
At the dairy farm in the colony, the Minister interacted with inmates involved in livestock management and named a newborn calf ‘Krishna’ in a light-hearted moment during the visit.
At the Central Prison, Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, made a detailed presentation on the department’s ongoing reformation, welfare and educational initiatives. The Minister praised the Telangana Prisons department for transforming correctional facilities into learning and rehabilitation centres, highlighting the value of providing inmates with dignity and opportunity rather than mere confinement.
Inspector General of Prisons N. Murali Babu, Deputy Inspectors General D. Srinivas and M. Sampath, Superintendent of Central Prison Cherlapalli N. Shiva Kumar Goud, and Superintendent of the Prisoners Agriculture Colony D. Kalidas were also present during the visit.
