Enhanced security in Thoothukudi ahead of Deepavali

Extensive security arrangements have been made in place in Thoothukudi ahead of Deepavali festival.

For the public safety during the festival, Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police Albert John inaugurated surveillance towers at four major public gathering points in Thoothukudi city. Additionally two patrol vehicles equipped with 360° CCTV cameras have been deployed to monitor key crowded locations in the city.

Speaking at the event Mr. John stated that these measures are aimed at enhancing public safety and preventing criminal activities during the festival. He added that to prevent traffic congestion, additional police personnel have been deployed.

Across Thoothukudi, a total of 686 surveillance cameras have been installed covering major roads, junctions and residential areas. These cameras are monitored in real-time from the control room. Advanced drone cameras capable of precise night time surveillance have also been deployed to enhance public safety, he noted.

Mr, John also emphasised that to ensure a safe Deepavali, the public must cooperate with the police department. This includes avoiding activities such as drunk and drive, street racing and creating excessive noise that disturbs others.

He further added that public must follow prescribed timing guidelines to burst firecrackers, which is between 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The SP urged the people not to burst firecrackers in crowded places, near hospitals and fuel stations.
