Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra has appealed to the farmers to insure their crops during Rabi season.
In a statement, the Collector said that the premium for the crops under Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance scheme, being implmented by SBI General Insurance Company, could be paid through banks, primary agricultural cooperative societies and common service centres.
The premium for Samba paddy is ₹491 per acre. The premium for other crops (per acre) is maize ₹319, sorgham ₹136, cumbu ₹160, green gram ₹251, black gram and toor dhal ₹252, cotton ₹473, groundnut ₹314 and gingelley ₹122 and sunflower ₹188.
The premium for horticultural crops like corriander is ₹583 per acre, chilli ₹1,109 per acre, onion ₹1573 per acre and banana ₹4,426 per acre.
The Collector said that the deadline for payment of premium in 2025-26 is November 11, maize, cumbu, toor dal and cotton is November 30.
The deadline for paying premium for Samba paddy, sorghum is December 16, ground nut and sunflower is December 30, gingelley January 31, 2026.
Farmers need to pay their premium for coriander by January 17,2026, for chilli and onion by January 31, 2026 and banana by February 28, 2026, the statement said.
While registering under the crop insurance scheme, the farmers need to produce adangal, sowing certificates issued by village administrative officer, copy of first page of bank passbook and Aadhar card and receipt for payment of premium while submit their insurance proposal to the banks, PACS and common service centres.
The Collector appealed to the farmers to avoid last minute rush and pay the premium and insure their crops.
The insurance would come hand to the farmers when they face crop loss due to natural calamities and pest attack.
