A two-year-old girl drowned in a vacant plot filled with about 2.5 feet of rainwater near her house in Mangadu on Wednesday (October 23, 2025). According to the police, the child had reportedly wandered out of the house while her mother was asleep and drowned in the waterlogged plot located around 20 feet away.
The child was identified as Prinika, daughter of Sandeep Kumar and Priyadarshini, residents of Janani Nagar Annex in Mangadu. The police said that Priyadarshini works at an IT company in Ambattur and had been resting with her daughter during the day as she was scheduled for a night shift on Wednesday.
Later, she woke up to find her daughter missing and began searching for her. She found the child in a nearby vacant plot where rainwater had accumulated. With the help of neighbours, she rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her ‘brought dead’.
The police have sent the body to SRMC Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
