Security forces have been deployed in areas under Surma Assembly constituency in Dhalai district of Tripura after Tipra Motha supporters allegedly attacked local residents and government officials leaving several injured. The incident occurred after the strike called by a Motha-linked forum ended at 6 P.M. on Thursday (October 23, 2025).

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha condemned the incident and said the administration has been directed to take swift action against those responsible. The Chief Minister said Block Development Officer (BDO) Abhijit Majumder, Engineer Animesh Saha and local residents sustained injuries in an attack carried out by “Tipra Motha supporters” at a place called Santirbazar.

Several people have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. Some are being transported to the GBP Hospital in Agartala late in the night.

Tipra Motha leader and former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma appealed for peace and harmony between the communities. He informed a senior police officer was also injured during the clash.

Paramilitary platoons have been deployed in the tension-hit areas with senior police officers supervising the situation. The internet services in parts of Dhalai district are likely to be snapped, a government source said.

The exact circumstances leading to the incident are unclear. Chief Minister Dr Saha, who is holding the home portfolio, has blamed Tipra Motha for the current flare-up.
