Rozgar Mela brings job opportunities to 116 candidates in Chennai on Friday

A total of 116 candidates received their appointment letters for jobs in various Central government departments at the 17th tranche of ‘Rozgar Mela’ (employment fair) organised by the Department of Posts in the city on Friday.

The new recruits will join various departments, including the Department of Posts, Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Financial Services and the Ministry of Railways.

G. Natarajan, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region, said the recruitment drive was a flagship programme launched in October 2022 to provide employment opportunities to 10 lakh youngsters across Central government departments.

In Tamil Nadu alone, nearly 334 candidates received offer letters in similar events organised by the Postal Department at Tiruchi, Coimbatore, and Madurai on Friday. In the Chennai city region, 24 candidates have been recruited for posts such as assistant branch postmaster and postal assistant, he said.

Azarudeen A, a B.Tech graduate from Vriddhachalam, who received an offer for the post of social security assistant in Employment Provident Fund Organisation, Tambaram, said he would continue preparing for Staff Selection Commission exams. “There is limited awareness about central government job opportunities and exams in the State,” he added.

Bharathi.A., a graduate from Tiruttani was one of the new recruits in the Department of Posts. “I had applied for job in the department earlier this year and now appointed as assistant branch postmaster in Pudur, Timiri, Arcot taluk. I will continue take departmental exams,” she said.

The Rozgar Mela, organised in 40 locations across India, saw nearly 51,000 new recruits receiving appointment orders0. Addressing candidates via video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the Pratibha Setu portal, aimed at aiding candidates who reached the final stage of Union Public Service Commission exams but were not selected.
