3 Great Peacock Movies to Binge-Watch This Weekend (October 24-26)

From now until Halloween, Peacock and many of its rival streamers will have wall-to-wall horror movies.

To keep everyone from having a horror overdose, only one of Watch With Us‘ picks this week is a scary movie.

The remaining two films in our choices for the three great Peacock movies to binge-watch this weekend share only one thing in common: They both feature Robert Redford in a leading role.

Our second pick of the week is a critically acclaimed romance, while the other is the film that revitalized Redford’s career in the ’90s.

‘The Skeleton Key’ (2005)

The Skeleton Key is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and it remains a very underrated horror film that was a minor hit upon its release. Kate Hudson stars as a nurse, Caroline Ellis, who accepts a job as the caretaker for Benjamin “Ben” Devereaux (John Hurt) at the behest of his wife, Violet Devereaux (Gena Rowlands).

Over time, Caroline becomes increasingly alarmed by the hoodoo paraphernalia that she discovers in the house. She also learns about the legend of two slaves, Mama Cecile (Jeryl Prescott) and Papa Justify (Ronald McCall), who practiced hoodoo in the house decades earlier. Although Caroline isn’t a believer in hoodoo, the things she experiences in the house are changing her mind, and that terrifies her.

‘Sneakers’ (1992)

Sneakers was a comeback of sorts for Redford as his star power faded in the late ’80s. This heist movie cast the legendary actor as Martin Bishop, a former thief-turned-security expert who leads a team that includes Carl Arobgast (River Phoenix), Donald Crease (Sidney Poitier), Irwin “Whistler” Emery (David Strathairn), and Darren “Mother” Roskow (Dan Aykroyd).

When given a chance to clear his record, Martin teams up with his ex-lover, Liz Ogilvy (Mary McDonnell), and the rest of his group to steal a valuable black box on behalf of the CIA. Unfortunately for Martin, he realizes too late that he’s been conned and framed, and a former friend, Cosmo (Ben Kingsley), is behind everything. To reclaim their lives, Martin and his team have to pull off their greatest heist yet.

‘Out of Africa’ (1985)

Four decades ago, Out of Africa was a sensation at the Oscars, and it went on to win Best Picture, Best Director for Sydney Pollack and five other awards. This film is based on the autobiography of Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), a Danish woman who marries a minor nobleman, Bror von Blixen-Finecke (Klaus Maria Brandauer), for financial reasons rather than love. Together, they move to Africa to run a farm.

When Blizen’s marriage proves to be loveless, she finds her heart turning to big-game hunter Denys Finch Hatton (Redford), a man who exemplifies everything she wants in a partner. They don’t have an easy courtship either, but they do share an epic romance story that’s perhaps more famous for how it ends than how they were together.
