The South Asian Symphony Foundation will present a concert by the South Asian Symphony Orchestra (SASO) at the M.S. Subbulakshmi Auditorium, Asian College of Journalism, at 7 p.m. on November 30.
Having last performed in Chennai in 2022, the SASO will return to Chennai through a collaboration between the Foundation and Asian College of Journalism. The concert, conducted by Alvin Arumugam, will also feature the MMA choir from Chennai.
The evening’s programme will highlight Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, a masterpiece that showcases the composer’s brilliance. The concert will also celebrate the centenary of Indian cinema legend Raj Kapoor with orchestral arrangements of his classic melodies, said a press release.
The performance will feature a special orchestral adaptation of a nottuswara by the revered composer Muthuswami Dikshitar. Founded by retired Indian diplomat Nirupama Menon Rao, the South Asian Symphony Foundation promotes cultural dialogue and cooperation across South Asia through music.
While Ms. Rao said each performance is a celebration of the shared cultural and artistic heritage of South Asia, Mr. Arumugam noted that “the SASO is more than an ensemble — it is a meeting place for cultures, voices, and hearts.”
