Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Special Officers for all districts to monitor and supervise relief and rehabilitation operations in view of the approaching severe cyclonic storm “Montha”. They are entrusted with coordinating and supervising relief operations, assisting District Collectors, and ensuring the implementation of all measures related to rescue, relief, and rehabilitation. 

The government, in a GO 1982 issued on October 25, said that the appointed Special Officers have been directed to proceed immediately to their respective districts and establish Cyclone Control Rooms in coordination with the concerned District Collectors. They are responsible for coordinating relief operations undertaken by various departments and ensuring that rescue and relief reach every affected person, with particular emphasis on achieving last-mile delivery.

The officers shall continue to function as Cyclone Relief Officers until the completion of relief operations, enumeration of losses, distribution of compensation to affected families, and full restoration of normalcy in their respective districts.

For effective zonal coordination, Ajay Jain has been appointed as Zonal In-charge Officer for the  districts from Srikakulam to  Konaseema, and R.P. Sisodia as Zonal In-charge Officer for the  districts spreading West Godavari to Chittoor. 

The district-wise appointments are: for Srikakulam, K.V.N. Chakradhara Babu is appointed as the Special Officer; for Vizianagaram, Pattanshetti Ravi Subash; for Manyam, Narayana Bharath Gupta. For Visakhapatnam, Ajay Jain. For Anakapalli and ASR Vadarevu Vinay Chand; for East Godavari, K. Kanna Babu;  for Kakinada, V.R. Krishna Teja; Konaseema– Vijaya Rama Raju;  West Godavari– V. Prasanna Venkatesh;  Eluru– Kantilal Dande;  for Krishna, Amrapali Kata; for NTR district, Shashi Bhushan Kumar;  Guntur– R.P. Sisodia; for Bapatla, M. Venu Gopal Reddy; for Prakasam, Kona Sasidhar; for Nellore, N. Yuvaraj; for Tirupati P. Arun Babu;and for Chittoor, P.S. Girisha.

The order notes that a depression currently lies over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, about 950 kilometres east-southeast of Chennai and 990 kilometres southeast of Kakinada. It is expected to intensify into a deep depression by October 26 over the Central Bay of Bengal and further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm named “Montha” by the morning of October 28. The storm is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kakinada during the evening or night of October 28.
