Family members of many of the Karur stampede victims on Sunday left for Mamallapuram, where Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has invited them saying the party founder and actor Vijay plans to meet them on Monday to offer his condolences.
Party cadre visited the houses of bereaved family members on Sunday and arranged cars for their local travel. They were subsequently taken to Vennaimalai in Karur, where the boarded the air-conditioned buses waiting to take them to Mamallapuram. The buses left on Saturday afternoon.
According to sources, the family members of about 30 victims, out of 33 victims belonging to Karur district, accepted Mr. Vijay’s invitation. Since Sunday turned out to be the 30th day since the tragedy occurred in Karur, some of the bereaved families performed the 30th day rituals in their houses before leaving for Mamallapuram.
TVK sources said these families would be put up in a hotel and they would travel back to Karur on Monday evening.
