The All India Congress Committee-in charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Girish Chodankar on Sunday said that people should not support any “outsider” who is keen to destroy Puducherry.

Speaking to reporters, he claimed a “junior Adani” [industrialist] had arrived in Puducherry and “outsiders” are trying to buy the Union Territory’s resources including water, land, ports, and the electricity sector. The people of Puducherry should not allow such outsiders.

Mr. Chodankar alleged attempts are being made to bring back lottery and gambling into Puducherry. Such a move will destroy Puducherry’s unique culture and identity and no political party should support them. Like Puducherry, Goa too was once a major tourism hub, but today the situation in the State has worsened and drug usage is rampant, he said.

Alleging the Puducherry Government was functioning as a ‘puppet’ in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Chodankar said the Karaikal port had already been handed over to the Adani group. Now attempts are being made to sell Puducherry’s power sector, worth ₹33,000 crore. he said.

The ruling AINRC-BJP combine has failed to provide 10,000 jobs to the youth in the U.T. as promised in its election manifesto, he said, adding that a total of 2,244 persons alone have been given employment.

“We are working to ensure the party wins in all the 30 assembly constituencies in the U.T. in the 2026 assembly elections. The party leadership will decide on the number of seats to be given to alliance partners,” he added.
