Five arrested for hurling country-made bomb during student clash in Maduravoyal

A clash between two groups of college students turned violent when country-made bombs were hurled in Maduravoyal on Sunday night. Police have arrested five students in connection with the incident.

The arrested persons were identified as Mayajothi, 22, Vignesh, 21, Ajith, 20, Ashiq, 20, and Jestin, 19. The clash reportedly stemmed from an ongoing rivalry between Arasan, a student of Pachaiyappa’s College, and Naveen Kumar, 20, a law student of a private college in Maduravoyal.

Police said about three months ago, Naveen and his friends had allegedly attacked Arasan. Although Mayajothi had attempted to mediate between the groups at that time, the discussion ended in an argument.

On Sunday night, Mayajothi and his friends, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, went to Naveen’s house to confront him. A scuffle broke out, during which someone from Naveen’s group reportedly hurled a crude bomb, causing minor injuries to Vignesh.

The Maduravoyal police rushed to the spot, arrested five men, and have launched a search for Naveen and six others who are currently absconding.
