Cyclone Montha: SCR Vijayawada division cancels 54 trains


The Vijayawada division of South Central Railway (SCR) has cancelled 54 trains on October 28 and 29 due to Cyclone Montha.

South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava asked the officials to give priority to passengers’ safety and take adequate precautionary measures.

Mentioning that Cyclone Montha is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kakinada on Tuesday, Mr. Srivastava said that the officers and staff must be prepared to deal any exigency situation.

Mr. Srivastava took stock of the situation on cyclone preparedness in Vijayawada on Monday. Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mohit Sonakiya explained about the steps being taken to tackle the cyclone.

The DRM briefed that the engineering, medical, operations, mechanical, commercial and other departments were put on high alert.

“Control rooms have been set up to ensure round-the-clock monitoring. Instructions have been issued to monitor the condition of bridges, operation of trains and the situation at vulnerable locations,” Mr. Mohit Sonakiya said.

Patrolling teams will monitor the tracks and bridges. Men, material and equipment have been kept ready for an emergency. Mobile rescue teams and diesel locomotives have been positioned strategically to ensure continuity of essential services, the DRM said.

DGM (Coordination) Srinivas Malladi, Principal Chief Operations Manager K. Padmaja and officers of various branches participated.

Vijayawada division has cancelled 54 trains due to Cyclone Montha. The following trains were cancelled on October 28 and 29.
