Two Shiriyara Seva Cooperative Society staff booked for misappropriation of ₹1.7 crore


The Kota police in Udupi district have registered a case against two employees of Shiriyara Seva Cooperative Society for alleged misappropriation of about ₹1.7 crore in the society’s Kavadi branch.

The police said prime accused Suresh Bhat, the in-charge manager, and junior clerk Harish Kulal worked in the Kavadi branch. Following their transfers, Suresh’s colleague Ram took over charge from him.

Mr. Ram found discrepancies in the collection of deposits upon finding ₹1.7 crore missing. The Shiriyara Seva Cooperative Society CEO, along with office staff, visited the Kavadi branch for an inquiry and found that the amount was misappropriated. Gold ornaments pledged by Harish to avail a loan of ₹21 lakh were also missing.

Based on the complaint by the society, Suresh and Harish were booked under Sections 318(3) and (4), 112, and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
