A 55-year-old woman is battling for life after her husband assaulted her with a hammer near Vanagaram on Wednesday. The husband was also admitted in the hospital after he was beaten by the public.
Police said Raja was married to Sulochana and both were working as construction workers. The couple was natives of Tiruvannamalai and were residing in a rented accommodation in Mugalivakkam. Raja had fights with his wife over suspicion.
On Wednesday, as Raja was proceeding to Tiruvannamalai and was waiting to board a bus in Madhavaram bus terminus, he saw his wife going in a bike with her co-worker. Immediately he followed her and when she got down near the Porur toll plaza near Vanagaram, Raja assaulted her with the hammer which he was carrying in his bag.
In the attack. Sulochana sustained serious head injury and was rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical college hospital where she is at emergency care. On seeing Raja trying to escape, the public grabbed him and handed over to the police.
The Vanagaram police have filed a case and are investigating.
