Supreme Court issues notice on Vaiko’s plea against SIR in T.N.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice on a plea filed by MDMK founder and former Rajya Sabha member Vaiko challenging the decision of the Election Commission of India to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.

A Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi listed the plea along with other petitions filed by political parties like DMK, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress and others against holding the SIR in the State.

Mr. Vaiko has argued that the SIR notification violated various fundamental rights including right to equality and various provisions of Representation of the People Act and Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
