A 3-year-old tiger that had been lifting cattle in Gudalur was captured by the forest department on Saturday (November 29, 2025) morning.
In a statement, the Forest Department stated that the tiger, in Devarsholai, had been preying on cattle in the area over the last few months. Due to fears of increasing negative interactions with humans, a cage was placed to trap the animal recently. A special team was formed comprising the Divisional Forest Officer, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon from Mudumalai and conservationists from multiple Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) to oversee the capture and release of the animal.
On Saturday (November 29), the tiger was trapped inside a cage placed in the area by the Forest Department, with officials stating that they would decide on an area for the animal to be relocated to.
Vengatesh Prabhu, Gudalur District Forest Officer, told reporters that the Forest Department was waiting for the tiger to calm down before it is moved to a smaller cage for easier transportation and relocation.
Efforts continue to track down a tiger in Mudumalai that killed a 70-year-old adivasi woman on Monday (November 24).
