The Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT) police arrested a 29-year-old man for robbing gold jewellery from a woman on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).

City police identified the culprit as Elavarasan, a native of Vedaranyam and has completed engineering studies.

Elavarasan had come to the city in search of jobs. However, he got accustomed with a 20-year-old woman pursuing a commerce degree in a private college in Nagapattinam district through a social media app a few months ago. The woman had recently come to the city to visit her relative in Tiruvottiyur and also met Elavarasan.

As she boarded a government bus in the CMBT bus terminus, she saw her gold jewellery missing from the bag. She had briefly given the bag to Elavarasan before boarding the bus. When she tried to contact Elavarasan, he had switched off the mobile.

Based on the complaint filed by the woman, the CMBT police filed a case and arrested the youth for robbing the gold jewellery.
