Blaming the BJP leaders in the north for creating a ruckus over the lighting of lamp in Thiruparankundram, Sivaganga Congress MP Karthi Chidambaram on Saturday said there was no deviation and tradition was followed meticulously.
Speaking to media persons, he said the lamp was being lit at the designated place from time immemorial. “We have been seeing people visit shrines regularly. No one is being stopped from offering worship. The government is doing its part without any compromise through HR&CE. We are all witnesses to the festivals conducted all through the year.”
When such was the reality, indulging in politics and misleading gullible people was not acceptable. It was not fair to play mischief with such traditions of Tamils, he said and blamed the BJP leaders, who, he said, had no idea about Lord Murugan or festivals scuh as ‘Thai Poosam” and taking “kaavadi” as part of the celebrations.
After remaining mute spectators, the BJP taking up the issue suddenly was baffling and people were not going to be carried away by such wrongs, Mr. Karthi said and added that the government had done its role perfectly.
Asked about TVK’s presence and its leader Vijay, the MP said the actor-politician rarely made public appearance. But, it was his prerogative.
Taking a dig at the Directorate of Enforcement and other agencies, he said they were being misused by the Union government to settle scores with political opponents.
Among the States, Tamil Nadu was progressing fast, especially in attracting investments. The government should turn the opportunity to the maximum and provide jobs to the youngsters here.
On AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami’s remarks, he said that after remaining silent when the JDU gave ₹1,0000 to womenfolk in Bihar, it was unfair to question about the Tamil Nadu government’s programme to give ₹1,000 to women under the Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam.
