Several artistes were honoured at the inauguration of the 125th year celebration of the December Music Festival in Chennai on Tuesday.

Violin maestro V.V. Subrahmanyam and Harikatha exponent Vishakha Hari were conferred the title ‘Sangeetha Kalasarathy’ at the inauguration of the 125th year celebration of the December Music Festival of Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha here on Tuesday.
The lifetime contribution ‘Acharya Sarathy’ Award went to academician, musicologist and guru Rama Ravi and academician, musicologist and guru R.K. Padmanabha.
The other awards presented during the occasion include Palghat Mani Iyer Centenary Award to Thavil exponent T.G. Muthukumaraswamy, Dwaram Venkataswami Naidu Award to violin exponent V.V.S. Murari, Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Award to veena exponent Nirmala Rajasekar, Veena Pichumani Iyer Centenary Award to veena exponent Mudikondan S.N. Ramesh, Kalpagam Swaminathan Award to vocalist Mangalam Shankar, Isai Methai G. Ramanathan Award to vocalist Vidya Kalyanaraman, Dr. MLV Award to vocalist Shruthi Shankar Kumar and Pudukkottai Dakshinamurthy Pillai Award to mridangam exponents M. Manoj Siva and B. Ganapathy Raman.
Sri Madhurakavi Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami of Sri Vanamamalai Mutt, Nanguneri inaugurated and spoke at the event. Cleveland V.V. Sundaram, co-founder of the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana said, the Parthasarathy Swami Sabha is an old traditional sabha and the fact that they have organised 350-360 concerts is a tremendous achievement.
Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, president of Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Mr. Padmanabha, Ms. Hari, Ms. Rajasekar, and K.N. Shashikiran, founder of Carnatica were among those who spoke at the event. Nandini Azad, president of the Working Women’s Forum was also present at the event.
