A large number of residents from the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) participated in a protest organised by Arappor Iyakkam on Sunday to highlight the poor basic amenities in the housing board tenements in various parts of Chennai.
The event ‘Kelu Chennai Kelu’ was held near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. The participants urged the government to act upon the demands of the residents to improve civic amenities.
Jayaram Venkatesan, coordinator of Arappor Iyakkam, said the government had failed to provide even basic amenities and the flats constructed only a few years ago were of substandard quality with the walls developing cracks.
