A 24-year-old woman was murdered and her body was tied in a gunny bag and thrown on the Yercaud Ghat Road on Monday evening (December 29, 2025).
Following a foul smell on the Kuppanur-Yercaud Ghat Road, with the help of local residents, the police retrieved a bag from the 200-foot-deep gorge after four hours of struggle and found a woman’s body in a decomposed stage. The police immediately verified the missing complaints and found a woman’s identity match with the deceased.
The deceased was identified as S. Sumathi (24), a resident of Maramangalam in Yercaud and she was a casual labourer.
Police investigation revealed that Sumathi married Shanmugam two years ago. She developed an affair with G. Venkatesh (23) of the same locality via social media. On December 23, she came out of the house and went missing. On the day of the incident, a quarrel erupted between Sumathi and Venkatesh and he strangled her to death and threw the body into the gorge, police added.
The police registered a case and nabbed Venkatesh and are investigating further.
