Social Welfare and Women Empowerment minister P. Geetha Jeevan distributed free laptops to students of Government Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital on Monday.

Speaking at the event she said that Tamil Nadu has emerged as the leading state in India in aspects including per capita income, growth, infrastructure facilities, economy, industry and education. This has also been reflected in the statistics released by the Central government.

She added that the Chief Minister is determined to accelerate development at a rapid pace. “At present, 368 students from Tamil Nadu are pursuing higher education abroad with the state government bearing the expenses. Under the previous AIADMK government, only six students were able to pursue higher education under government expenses,” Ms. Geetha Jeevan noted.

A total of 364 laptops were distributed to medical, nursing and allied medical course students.

Revenue Divisional Officer M. Prabhu, Dean G. Sivakumar, Resident Medical Officer Silas Jeyamani and other officials were present.
