The Department of Drugs Control, Government of Puducherry, has issued an advisory to all concerned stakeholders to immediately stop the use, sale and distribution of Almont-kid syrup as the medicine was found to be adulterated with Ethylene Glycol (EG).
In a circular, Controlling Authority, Department of Drugs Control, E. Anandakirouchenane, said the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, East Zone, Kolkata, has issued an alert regarding a laboratory report that has declared the syrup adulterated with EG, a highly toxic substance. The general public and all concerned stakeholders are advised not to use the syrup, the circular said.
“The department has initiated necessary enforcement measures and is actively monitoring the situation to prevent further risk to public health. Public should refrain from using the product to avert any potential health hazards associated with EG toxicity. If someone was in possession of the syrup, it should be immediately brought to the knowledge of the department,” he said.
