The Kerala High Court has sought the response of both the Central and State governments on a petition seeking compensation for land in landslides-affected areas of Wayanad that have been declared ‘No Go Zones’.

The government had taken over these lands in Meppadi panchayat following the devastating landslides in July 2024 and subsequently designated the area as a ‘No Go Zone’, prohibiting all construction activity.

The petitioners have sought compensation for their land under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, along with appropriate rehabilitation measures.
