Two people were killed in separate accidents in the district on Thursday (January 22, 2026).
The deceased was identified as N. Manikandan (34) of Amani Kondalampatti, who was running a bakery in the locality. In the wee hours of Thursday, he was headed to Kondalamapatti from Kandampatti on a two-wheeler. While he reached the Butterfly Flyover, his vehicle hit the sidewall. Manikandan sustained grievous injuries to his head and died on the spot. The Annathanapatti police sent the body to Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem and registered a case.
Likewise, P. Ponraj (35) of Kottachedu in Yercaud, was working as a lorry driver at a parcel company in Erumapalayam. On Wednesday (January 21, 2026) around 9.30 p.m., he, along with his friend P. Mani (27), were headed to Seelanaickenpatti on a two-wheeler. While they reached a private school, another two-wheeler driven by R. Sharma (27), a resident of Mannarpalayam, collided with Ponraj’s bike. In the accident, Ponraj and Sharma sustained grievous injuries, but Ponraj died at the hospital. The Kitchipalayam police registered a case and are investigating further.
